Roots and shoots

People often ask where I get my wood. I buy basswood for the painted carvings and for teaching. The rest is found wood or donated by folks doing clearing or trimming on their land. 

The root and small spirits above came from a walk two days ago on a logging road where huge equipment pushed over the trees. I rarely cut a living tree as there are so many places where trees are being harvested or simply destroyed that I can pick through the waste and give a little life back to the wood.
