Every Autumn, as people start the crazed spending that has become the ordeal of Christmas, I begin whittling my series of Santas for this year. They have evolved in size and style over the years but one thing remains: they are all unique and never duplicated. Imagine, as you subject yourself to malls and line-ups, the peaceful scene of the woodcarver, radio (CBC of course) in the background, and chips silently hitting the floor as the solid hunk of wood morphs into a charming wooden santa.
